Space Invaders Infinity Gene Review

Publisher: Square Enix
Platform: iPhone, Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network

Space Invaders; a classic game that started out 2 dimensional and evolved through the years to its present form that many of us probably can remember playing at least once or twice in our gaming careers. We got various versions of the game over the years and now it’s back once again! Square Enix brings us the latest in Space Invaders games with Space Invaders Infinity Gene for the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and the iPhone. This time; however, instead of being only 2D, it goes from 2D to 3D as you progress through the various levels.

The game starts out simple as it’s the classic 2-dimensional Space Invaders versus you, the Tank. The tank is now capable of doing continuous shots along with single shots and it’s up to the player to decide which they like better. There are also upgrades used to strengthen the Tanks’ weapons, which can be gained by defeating the Space Invaders. Another addition to the Tanks’ arsenal is the Nagoya Attacks, which allows the Tank to pass through enemy attacks momentarily when they are fired. Throughout the progression of levels, the Space Invaders change their movements and they vary from 2D to 3D. There are also levels where you just fight one boss that can vary in size, shape, and form. Of course, the game gets harder beyond each and every level. Completing the game up to a certain point on Normal Mode play will unlock Hard Mode difficulty. The other difficulties, Insane and Nightmare Modes, are unlocked through completing Bonus and Challenge Modes respectively. There are also Trophies or Achievements depending on which version of the game it played.

Space Invaders Infinity Gene is seemingly harder than the classic Space Invader games. It takes the classic game and merges it with a more modernized feel that makes the game fresh and more appealing to all gamers alike. This game can be played individually for the challenge or can be doubled up as a party game for all to enjoy. It can also be stimulating for the mind as one has to consider viable options to conquering the Space Invaders instead of blindly rushing in so to avoid getting derailed and restricting advancement in the game. Of course, if you’re just looking for a great game in general then stop for a moment and check this game out. Overall, this is a great way to bring a classic game of the past to the present with modernizations to make it a classic for future generations.
