Acclaimed anime director, Satoshi Kon, passes away

Satoshi Kon passed away yesterday at a too-early-to-go age of 47. Jim Vowles of Otakon.com confirmed it with Mr Maruyama at Madhouse. The Madhouse team is very sad about this news, and so are many others. Satoshi Kon is best known for directing anime films like Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, and Paprika.

Tokyo Godfathers is one of my all-time favorite anime films. It was an anime that starred the unlikeliest of heroes, the homeless, and featured a varied cast including a cross dresser, a young girl, and an aging man, on a journey to save a child. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s highly recommended.

Rest in peace, Satoshi Kon (1963-2010).
