Xbox 360 Trumps Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 for Month of July

After 3 years of not being at the top, the Microsoft Xbox 360 has finally broken that barrier and is the top-selling console of last month, July 2010. According to the NPD Group, the Xbox 360 sold more than twice to 443,500 units. The last time they were #1 was in September 2007. The Nintendo Wii sold 253,900 while the PS3 sold 214,500 units, gaining 76%.

“Xbox 360 was the top-selling hardware platform for the month, driven by sales of the new slim format,” Anita Frazier, an NPD analyst, said in the statement. The console last occupied the top sales spot when Microsoft released its “Halo 3” exclusive title almost three years ago, Frazier said.

As for the games, the best-selling of last month was EA’s NCAA Football 11, selling 368,000 for the Xbox 360 and 298,800 for the Playstation 3.

This is good news for Microsoft, since their new Xbox Slim has taken off with wireless internet built-in and extra harddrive space. Nintendo and Sony, you guys better step up your game.
